Les Paul and Marry Ford- Time Dream

Here is a 1957 record from Capitol featuring Les Paul and Mary Ford. I pair $4 for this, again, just recently. Why you may ask? Tracklist and subject. Pretty much the same reason I buy anything.

This record is full of softer more romantic tunes. Pretty decent. Some of feature Mary’s vocals. Others, just Les on guitar. I split the difference with the instrumental ” Bewitched” as well as the vocally driven ” June in January”.

Rickie Lee Jones- ST

I bought this self titled debut album from singer/songwriter Rickie Lee Jones back in 2015 for $1 as it was a steal. I also thought this could be Saturday material but as I have much Saturday-level material and not that many Saturday’s left, here it is on a Friday.

This 1979 Warner Brother’s release won Jones ( Chicago , IL 1954) a Best New Artist Grammy. Jones, who is still active today, deservers more than this little blurb but things being what they are, that is all we are getting. Perhaps Google can make up for my short comings.

I liked this album and am unsure what took so long to post. Here is “Danny’s All Star Joint”.

Julie London- The Best of Julie

Here is a record I bought just recently for $6. Would have been $3 five years ago. I got this as I like Julie London. She has an unique sound and look. That is somewhat a lazy intro given that I have all the time in the world to write these now, but meh.

Here is this Liberty Record’s greatest hits comp from 1962. A lot of London’s classics are on here.

For a sample, I going to Cole Porter and ” You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To”. I am not sure if the added pictures/ videos make it better but so far, I feel like I am falling short on writing these posts. I have been out of work three days and can not devote more than two hours to this blog for whatever reason ( mostly basic cable).

Marie Laforet- Album 2

Here is another album I bought while on vacation in Amsterdam. I think it was three records for ten Euros. Honestly, I forget. From Festival Records in 1966, here is a record from French singer Marie Laforet. I am a big fan of female French music and was largely unable to find much of this genre on this side of the Atlantic.

One of the big things I look forward to on vacation is buying these records. Another is the aquarium, which I found was closed this year after paying full admission to the zoo.

Marie Laforet ( Soulac-sur-Mer, Gironde, France 1939) was a French singer/ actress who had success in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She passed of bone cancer in 2019. Of all her songs, “A Demain My Darling” is the one I know the best. It is also on this album.

Pretty good album. Most songs are arranged by the French King of Pop, Andre Popp. I recorded it thru for sample consideration. Here is “Katy Cruelle” as well as “La Flute Magique” which is less to do with the Magic Flute opera but instead a version of the Peruvian “EL Condor Pasa”, which seems to be a frequent song on albums this month.

Petula Clark-Petula Clark’s Greatest Hits, Vol 1

Well, here we are with what is most likely the second to last month pf the blog. Odd enough how everything comes around full circle. I started this blog as something to do while I was out of work. As of last Friday at time of writing this, I am jobless again. Structured layoffs and I had made it known I was quitting after the end of February to return back to Canada so my departure was inevitable. Does this mean I am going to go back to writing these posts properly? No. Not until I get my internet issues fixed. Also, as a side note, my phone is now jacked as well.

Regardless, we have ourselves a record here. From 1968 and Warner Brothers, we have this greatest hits comp from blog favorite Petula Clark. I paid $1 for this back in 2015. Seems like a long time to wait around for this to get posted.

Not sure what to say about this record or the subject at this point given the large number of posts on the subject on this blog. Also, as a side note, whereas I have been cutting back on the records I record whole the last couple months, I sort of slid back to the other direction this month. However, this is not one of those records. I recorded every song except one, “Downtown”, as I recorded it last month. Anyway, here is this again, which is a fine collection of hit songs by Clark. Some of them feature the vocal backing group The Breakaways”.

I wanted to post a few other items, but I believe the Breakaways are on this sample so here is “Round Every Corner”

Petula Clark- Downtown ’88

Here is a record I bought some time ago for $4 which now seems like highway robbery. I think at the time. I felt it would be interesting to listen to and did not think it would sound like another 60’s song done in the 80’s with keyboards and drum machines, which it indeed did sound like. I am goign to go out on a limb and say this was from 1988. PRT Records and at one time, 3,49 pounds.

That being said, there is a certain amount of charm in the number and it would be anti- climatic to post anything else.

Lynn Anderson- Lynn Anderson’s Greatest Hits

I bought this one a while ago for $3 but it was hard to post it as I had many of Lynn Anderson’s records on this blog already. Wrapping up the middle of my vacation week but trying to wrap up the blog today,

From 1972 and Columbia Records, we have this greatest hits comp.

So I really wanted to somewhat end what is most likely the last Lynn Anderson album on this blog with “Rose Garden” but it realty came out pretty scratchy. Teh previous owner of this record played it out. So here we are with “Don’t Say Things You Don’t Mean”.

Renaissance- A Song For A Seasons

Two more posts for the end of the month/ end of the year. Trying to get back to my old style of doing these while trying to rapidly finish this all up. Which side will prevail? Well, this 1978 Sire Record from Renaissance will tell the tale. I bought this for $6 but since the back cover is poorly designed, I could not read the track list and thought this was just another late career record.

What I did not know is this album contained the group’s biggest hit ” Northern Lights”, which incidentally I have been looking for, not knowing I already had it. By all admittance, this should have been a Saturday record.

The album also came with a nifty poster.

Good little album. Here is the fore-mentioned “Northern Lights.

Vikki Carr- Ms. America

So this record was slated for earlier this month but I switched it up for the Smothers Brothers since it had some light holiday overtones. So here is this 1`973 record from Columbia and Vikki Carr. It was the track list plus price of $1 that sealed this purchase.

When I got this back in 2015, I listened to it and somewhat settled on “Danny’s Song” as a sample. I am not sure what changed over time but this time. I went with “We Didn’t Know The Time Of Day”.

Barbra Streisand- A Christmas Album

So I forgot to post something Jewish for Hanukkah this year and I am not sure this makes up for the omission. From Columbia Records in 1967, we have this from Babs, which, incidentally, is one of the best selling Christmas records of all time. I paid $6 for this. $6 seems to be the going rate for Christmas records this year.

Produced by Jack Gold and arranged/ conducted by Marty Paich ( except for the four tunes done by Ray Ellis), pretty well done album. Here is “Jingle Bells”.
