Tom Jones- Live In Las Vegas

I was pretty excited to find this recent purchase, for which I paid $4. I was originally excited to buy this record back some years ago only to open it and find a different Tom Jones record. This post can be seen here. Regardless, I felt this record had a really good track list. And for the most part I still do.

From London Records in 1969, here is Mr Jones at the Flamingo. I was quite excited to hear this record including the songs I am using for samples. Yes, that is plural. I recorded this album complete as well. Now that I have heard this, I seem to think the Talk Of The Town live record was better.

What more have I to say and why? For samples, I have the reason I bought this album; the covers of “Hard To Handle” and ” Hey Jude”.

VA- Dutch Pop Giants

Here is the last album I got on vacation for 3.33 Euro. Really does a good job of tying the Dutch theme together. Here is a compilation of Dutch Pop songs from Phillips Records and 1970.

So the main feature of this vacation to Amsterdam was honestly, just making it happen given the roadblocks the last two years. Teh second feature was the Light Festival which was a bit more low key than other years. Still , I enjoyed it for two nights.

This record features Dutch pop songs in English ( other than the two instrumentals). This album includes acts such as Cuby & The Blizzards, The Oscar Benton Blues Band, De Bintangs, The Motions, and for the sake of sampling, The Rob Hoeke R & B Group with “Don’t Feel Ashamed” and on the fore mentioned instrumental tip, Ekspetion with “Sabre Dance”. Good little record. Somewhat making a habit of posting two songs this month. Not sure if it is merited or if I am lazy editing.

Marie Laforet- Album 2

Here is another album I bought while on vacation in Amsterdam. I think it was three records for ten Euros. Honestly, I forget. From Festival Records in 1966, here is a record from French singer Marie Laforet. I am a big fan of female French music and was largely unable to find much of this genre on this side of the Atlantic.

One of the big things I look forward to on vacation is buying these records. Another is the aquarium, which I found was closed this year after paying full admission to the zoo.

Marie Laforet ( Soulac-sur-Mer, Gironde, France 1939) was a French singer/ actress who had success in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She passed of bone cancer in 2019. Of all her songs, “A Demain My Darling” is the one I know the best. It is also on this album.

Pretty good album. Most songs are arranged by the French King of Pop, Andre Popp. I recorded it thru for sample consideration. Here is “Katy Cruelle” as well as “La Flute Magique” which is less to do with the Magic Flute opera but instead a version of the Peruvian “EL Condor Pasa”, which seems to be a frequent song on albums this month.

Terry Stafford- Suspicion!

Here is an album I got from the estate of the late “Big Al” Pallister, meaning I paid $0 for this. I picked it for this month due to the cover. The blue seemed to reach out to me.

Terry Stafford was born in Hollis, OK in 1941 but soon moved down to the panhandle to Amarillo, TX at age 7 and then to California after high school to pursue a music career. This record and title track, originally an Elvis tune, would represent the zenith of Stafford’s career, although he did have some country hits in the 70’s. Stafford would pass of liver failure in 1996. He was 54.

Originally released by Crusader Records in 1964, this Canadian version was distributed by Reo. Pretty good little record. I went with “Slowly but Surely” as well as the title track. I like the Farfisa sounding organ part on it ( which was on several songs on here).

Petula Clark-Petula Clark’s Greatest Hits, Vol 1

Well, here we are with what is most likely the second to last month pf the blog. Odd enough how everything comes around full circle. I started this blog as something to do while I was out of work. As of last Friday at time of writing this, I am jobless again. Structured layoffs and I had made it known I was quitting after the end of February to return back to Canada so my departure was inevitable. Does this mean I am going to go back to writing these posts properly? No. Not until I get my internet issues fixed. Also, as a side note, my phone is now jacked as well.

Regardless, we have ourselves a record here. From 1968 and Warner Brothers, we have this greatest hits comp from blog favorite Petula Clark. I paid $1 for this back in 2015. Seems like a long time to wait around for this to get posted.

Not sure what to say about this record or the subject at this point given the large number of posts on the subject on this blog. Also, as a side note, whereas I have been cutting back on the records I record whole the last couple months, I sort of slid back to the other direction this month. However, this is not one of those records. I recorded every song except one, “Downtown”, as I recorded it last month. Anyway, here is this again, which is a fine collection of hit songs by Clark. Some of them feature the vocal backing group The Breakaways”.

I wanted to post a few other items, but I believe the Breakaways are on this sample so here is “Round Every Corner”

Petula Clark- Downtown ’88

Here is a record I bought some time ago for $4 which now seems like highway robbery. I think at the time. I felt it would be interesting to listen to and did not think it would sound like another 60’s song done in the 80’s with keyboards and drum machines, which it indeed did sound like. I am goign to go out on a limb and say this was from 1988. PRT Records and at one time, 3,49 pounds.

That being said, there is a certain amount of charm in the number and it would be anti- climatic to post anything else.

VA- The Secret Policeman’s Ball

Here is a record I that again I thought I bought at Vinyl Edge. Nope. Bought at Half Price. But I think I bought this during the 50% closing sale at the Half Pirce in Rice Village. So I think I paid $5 for this. This 1979 charity record for which Amnesty Internatinal hopefully received something.

You would think I would post one of the Pete Townsend numbers, which are basically Pete and an acoustic guitar. Nope. Goin with the Neill Innes number and being “Spontaneous”. On the cover, this looked like a perfect Saturday Record but somewhat got shafted on this. (Editors note: Neil does not have two ll’s in his name).

Ray Price- She Still Wears My Ring

Trying to finish up this week’s posts as I am on vacation and can leave my room as soon as this is done. I suppose I could leave when ever but I made a commitment so here we go. And here we go with this which I paid $2 back in 2018. I think at the time, I would buy anything with Ray Price’s name. Even this somewhat modern day record of 1968 from Columbia Records.

Somewhat strange record from Price as it deviates from country in places that would be more noticeable had this not been a country record. But still a good record all in all. Here is “Walking on New Grass”. Yass. Got to walk on that new grass when you can. Can you tell that this is possibly country? Neither can I.

Bobby Rydell- Sings The Hits of 1963

Here is a record I bought for $1. from Cameo Records from what I am just guessing is somewhere close to 1963. Could be 1964. Not 1965 though, and definitely not 1962. I probably bought this for the track list. I probably posted it now because Bye Bye, Birdie has been playing on my basic cable. I did I admit to still having basic cable? Why yes. But anyway, I think I’ll be a rinky dink drummer and drum up some copy for this record.

Actually, pretty decent. I recorded a good chunk of it for sample consideration. And for that consideration, I am going to be lazy and post both ” Our Day Will Come” and “Ruby Baby”.

Julian Gould- Sir Julian / A Knight at the Organ

Here is a record, I bought just recently, but not most recently. That will be entailed in next month’s blog. And then a month after that, we are done. Wah-Wah. I will straight out say it. I did a horrible job with album cover pictures this month. You will just have to deal with it. Regardless of all that noise, here is this, which if you may recall, I bought just recently. Paid $8. Gasp. Gasp I say. Anyway, it had a good tracklist.

SO I think I got out of this month with only recording two albums whole. This one was close thought as I recorded a lot of it, From 1962 and RCA Victor, here is Sir Julian. For your pleasure. On the electric Organ. Like a whole lot of this album so here is “Do You Ever Think Of Me” and “The Breeze and I”. That is right. I am bringing back two-fers.
